CUPB commenced one-week Workshop on “Data Sciences”

Bathinda: Central University of Punjab (CUPB) under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari commenced one-week AICTE sponsored Workshop on “Data Sciences” from 14th December 2020 onward. Department of Computer Science and Technology (CST Dept.), CUPB is organising this faculty development workshop under AICTE Training and Learning (ATAL) Academy Programmes from 14 to 18 Dec 2020. The main objective of this workshop is the development of quality technical education in the country. The keynote speaker of the inaugural session was Dr. Gurdeep Singh Hura, University of Maryland, Eastern Shore, U.S.A.. More than 250 faculty, research scholars, students and industry experts from 25 states across India have applied in this workshop.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Amandeep Kaur, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology. While putting a light on webinar topic, she mentioned that data sciences is a field that uses scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract valuable knowledge & insights from structured & unstructured data. Prof. Vinod K. Garg, Senior Professor & Dean Student Welfare emphasized that Data Sciences is an emerging field with great career prospects &.the researchers of this field have a wider scope to develop innovative solutions for society. He motivated participants to actively participate in this workshop and develop their technical expertise in this discipline.

Keynote Speaker Dr. Gurdeep Singh Hura in his lecture highlighted the advancements happening in the field of Big Data, Data Engineering, Data Science and Big Data Analytics. He mentioned that the Applications of Big Data will prove to be helpful for Financial Services, Communication, Energy Management Systems, Travel & Hospitality, Health Care, Retail and other industrial sectors to conduct customer analytics, compliance analytics, fraud analytics, and operational analytics. He shared the course curriculum content & skillset required in the discipline of Data Sciences and talked in detail about various Data Analytics Software Tools such as Apache Hadoop, Spark etc. Dr. Hura also discussed various research topics in the discipline of Data Sciences like Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, Optimization, Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing etc, and encouraged researchers to find out innovative solutions in these fields.

Dr. Satwinder Singh, HoD, Dept. of Computer Science & Technology and Workshop Convener mentioned that this FDP Workshop is a part of ‘1000 Online FDP Workshop Series’ initiated by AICTE ATAL Academy, which has been recognised in the Book of World Records. He informed that the participants of this workshop will be given hands-on training on predictive analytics with Machine Learning & Neural Networks, Technical Analysis for Short Term Forecasting, Sentiment Analysis on Social Media, Spreading the Models in Social Networks. He added, during this workshop, eminent personalities such Prof. Pramod Kumar Singh, Indian Institute of Information Technology & Management, Gwalior, Dr. Sudarshan Iyengar, Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar, Dr. Madhu, Indian Institute of Management, Amritsar, Dr. Pavitdeep Singh, Royal Bank of Scotland, Gurugram and Dr. Gaurav Kumar, Magma Research & Consultancy Services, Ambala will deliver invited lectures on various topics of Data Sciences and interact with participants.
