CUPB Dept. of Computer Science and Technology got selected to receive a grant of Rs 1 Crore under Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT
Bathinda : The Dept. of Computer Science and Technology (CST) of the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) has been selected under the Ministry of Electronics and IT’s Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT to receive a grant of Rs 1 Crore for PhD student fellowship and infrastructure development. The objective of this scheme is to enhance the number of PhDs in Electronics System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM) and IT/IT Enabled Services (IT/ITES) sectors in the country.
Dr. Satwinder Singh, HoD, Dept. of Computer Science and Technology, informed that according to a letter received from Digital India Corporation, Ministry of Electronics and IT, our department has been selected for the ‘Visvesvaraya Ph.D. Scheme for Electronics and IT’ and under this scheme our department will be given a grant of Rs 1 Crore in the form of a Ph.D. student fellowship and infrastructure development for capacity building in the field of ESDM. Under this scheme, the Dept. of CST will get 3 additional PhD seats on which the selected candidates will get 25 % more fellowship than in other PhD schemes. Apart from student scholarships, this scheme also provides an infrastructural grant of Rs 18 Lakh for infrastructure development to support the enrolled candidate research under the scheme
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. R.P. Tiwari, expressed his gratitude towards the Ministry of Electronics and IT and congratulated the faculty of the Dept. of Computer Science and Technology. He stated that the selection of CUPB’s Dept. of Computer Science and Technology for the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT will strengthen our campaign to develop an ecosystem of research, development and IP creation in the knowledge-intensive section, especially ESDM, and will enable us to contribute to actualizing the vision of AtmaNirbhar Bharat.
Prof. Amandeep Kaur, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology, stated that the focus of this scheme is to give thrust to R&D, create an innovative ecosystem and enhance India’s competitiveness in Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) and IT/IT Enabled Services (IT/ITES) sectors in the country. The faculty of Dept. of CST, CUPB, will be committed to continuously strive to accomplish this objective.
In the coming days, the CUPB’s CST Department will announce the details of the admission process for filling up PhD seats under the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT.
