CUPB Dept. of English organized Webinar on ‘Academic Writing’

The programme commenced with the welcome address by Dr. Shahila Zafar, Programme Convener, where she informed that this is the first webinar under three lecture webinar-series conducted by CUPB English Dept. on different topics related to professional, linguistic & career development of students. While inaugurating this Webinar Series Prof. R.K. Wusirika, Dean Incharge Academics, asserted that Academic Writing is a crucial topic on which most of students find difficulty and this webinar will be helpful for them in nourishing their skills. Dr. Prithvi Raj introduced the keynote speaker to the participants.
The Keynote Speaker Prof. Deepti Gupta mentioned that we need to use Academic Writing while writing Examination Answer Sheets, Research Papers, Assignments, Dissertations and Research Theses. She added, this is a skill that anyone can master with regular practice and patience. She pointed out that Academic Writing is different from Personal Writing and it has a set format. While sharing the key features of academic writing, she advised students to present an objective account, adopt logical & rational approach, state evidence-based information and include public opinions & expert views in simple language suitable for readers. She highlighted that a good research paper always got published in a reputed journal provided it has well written abstract, references & citations and strong evidence against the perils of plagiarism. She stated paraphrasing and proofreading are important strategies in Academic Writing and students must use it before finalizing their work.
