CUPB honours first Chancellor Prof. S.S. Johl for his commendable contribution to the society

Bathinda: Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) organised a farewell function to honour their legendry Chancellor Prof. Sardara Singh Johl on the successful completion of his tenure. An internationally acclaimed agriculture economist, policy advisor and Padma Bhushan Awardee Prof. Johl, the first Chancellor of CUPB, has played a vital role in the growth of University. The programme was conducted under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari. On this occasion, CUPB founder Vice Chancellor Prof. Jai Rup Singh and Former Vice Chancellor Prof. R.K. Kohli connected through an online platform to share their experiences while working with Prof. Johl. The live-streaming of this programme was attended by CUPB students, alumni and their parents from across the country.

Prof. Jairup Singh, the first Vice Chancellor, mentioned Prof. Johl is the brightest educationist of India who has immensely contributed to our society. He shared that Prof. Johl has guided various educational institutions and CUPB is fortunate get him as its first Chancellor. Prof. R.K. Kohli, the former Vice Chancellor conveyed his regards towards Prof. Johl stated that under his visionary guidance the University has grown by leaps and bounds over the past years in the field of education & research. He added, Prof. Johl is an inspirational person and youngsters should learn simplicity, honesty, fearlessness, sincerity and commitment to serve our society from him.

On this occasion, Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, the present Vice Chancellor mentioned that Padma Bhushan Prof. S.S. Johl is a humble person who always inspires everyone to serve the society and nation. He further stated that Prof. Johl has made an outstanding contribution in the field of education, agriculture & economic development during his long & illustrious career of nearly seven decades. He stated, under the invincible leadership of Prof. Johl, CUIPB achieved key milestone such as ‘A’ Grade Accreditation from NAAC, 87th Rank in NIRF Ranking 2020, shifting to permanent campus etc. He expressed his gratitude towards Prof. Johl and previous Vice Chancellors for building a strong foundation & ensured that the university will make best efforts to provide equitable quality education to all to develop global citizens.

Shri Kanwal Pal Singh Mundra CUPB Registrar, in his thanksgiving message, put a light on the important contribution of Prof. Johl towards our society. He shared that the acclaimed academician has handled various key positions at national and international level such as Chairman of Commission for Agriculture Costs and Prices, Member of Economic Advisory Council for four Prime Ministers of India etc and made important policy contributions at the state and national level. He conveyed high regards towards eminent professor on behalf of CUPB Family.

In his farewell address, Prof. S.S. Johl mentioned that we should believe in almighty and always put the best efforts to serve the society throughout our life. He shared that one who wants to be happy should always cherish the success of others. He thanked CUPB administration, faculty & staff for offering cooperation & support in actualizing the ‘Vision & Mission’ of University. He expressed the belief that under the guidance of new Chancellor Prof. Jagbir Singh, CUPB will achieve new heights.

 

The programme commenced with the welcome address by Prof. Anjana Munshi and concluded with Vote of Thanks by Prof. Tarun Arora.

 

On this occasion, Prof. R.K. Wusirika, Dean Incharge Academic Affairs, Shri K.P.S. Mundra, Registrar, Prof. S.K. Bawa, Director IQAC, Dean of Schools, HoDs, faculty & staff members of the university were present.
