CUPB organised an International Webinar on Cancer Biochemistry

Bathinda: The Department of Biochemistry at the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari organised an International Webinar on ‘Cancer Biochemistry’. The keynote speaker of this programme was Prof. Sanjay Gupta, Professor at Dept. of Urology, Case Western Reserve University, USA

At the start of the programme, Prof. R.K. Wusirika, Dean Incharge Academics delivered the welcome address & put a light on the webinar theme. While introducing the keynote speaker he mentioned that Prof. Sanjay Gupta is working in the areas of drug discovery & clinical research on various types of cancer especially ‘prostate cancer’ and has authored more than 100 publications.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari appreciated Department of Biochemistry for conducting webinar on the important topic. He encouraged faculty & research scholars to work on innovative research proposals by collaborating with the National and International Institute of repute.

Keynote Speaker Professor Sanjay Gupta talked about cancer, cancer stem cell, and drug resistance. He told that the occurrence of cancer stem cells is one of the main reasons for the disease relapse, lesser survival, and poor therapy outcome (drug resistance) in cancer patients. He told that targeting molecular events related to drug resistance and survival of cancer stem cells by chemotherapy is a better strategy in the management of cancer. During the webinar, Prof. Gupta also shared his experiences related to laboratory work carried out in the field of Cancer Drug Resistance.

Prof. Anjana Munshi, Dean Research, expressed her gratitude towards the keynote speaker for enlightening the participants on webinar topic with his scholarly lecture. Towards the end, she delivered formal vote of thanks. The program was coordinated by Program Convener Dr. Shashank Kumar from CUPB Dept. of Biochemistry. Faculty, research scholars, and students from various Universities/Institutes from India and Abroad attended this Webinar.
