CUPB organizes the Inaugural Ceremony of the one-week International Workshop on Data Science and Statistical Modelling

Bathinda : The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB), in collaboration with Mizan-Tepi University, Ethiopia, NIT Jalandhar, Baba Farid College Bathinda, and MathTech Thinking Foundation, India (MTTF), proudly inaugurated the One-Week Online International Workshop on ‘Data Science and Statistical Modelling: Harnessing Python and R Programming’ in a grand ceremony held on Wednesday.

This workshop, organized under the patronage of Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, the Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Punjab; Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, Director of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar; and Dr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, Chairman of Baba Farid Group of Institutions, Bathinda, is a part of the National Statistical Day 2023 celebrations. The workshop aims to bring together researchers, professionals, and enthusiasts from the fields of data science, statistics, and programming to explore and share knowledge on the latest advancements in data analysis, modelling, and visualization using Python and R programming languages. More than 170 participants including faculty, research scholars and students from different institution are participating in this workshop.

During the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Deep Singh, Head of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at CUPB and Workshop Convener, welcomed the participants and esteemed guests who graced the event. He added that the workshop will provide a platform for sharing knowledge, discussing advancements, and exploring the latest techniques and tools related to Python and R programming languages in the context of data science.

In his presidential address, Dr. Ramakrishna Wusirika, Dean Incharge Academics, and Co-Patron of this Workshop, asserted that this International Workshop is the result of the collaborative efforts of different HEIs to promote a comprehensive understanding among learners regarding the fundamental concepts, tools, and techniques required for effective data analysis and modelling. He expressed his firm belief that this workshop will help participants gain practical skills and insights into cutting-edge methodologies.

Dr. Zaved Ahmed Khan, Dean of Basic Science at Baba Farid College, Bathinda, and Co-Patron of this Workshop, encouraged participants to focus on the implementation of skills acquired from this workshop, develop ideas, and come up with proposals for research funding.

The inaugural ceremony also featured keynote speeches by esteemed experts, including Dr. Mehar Chand from the Department of Mathematics, Baba Farid College, Bathinda, India, and Mr. Yideg Mamo , Cheif Executive Officer ,Tepi Campus, Mizan-Tepi University, Ethiopia, facilitating knowledge exchange and collaboration among experts and participants.

On this occasion, Dr. Pooja, a subject matter expert from Skillup Technologies, Noida, delivered a lecture on ‘Data Science Foundations: Harnessing with Python’. Towards the end of the inaugural session, Dr. Deepika Rani from the Department of Mathematics, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, and Workshop Convener, proposed a formal vote of thanks.

During this one-week workshop, participants will learn about machine learning and predictive modelling, Big Data Analysis and Scalability, Data Wrangling and Integration, and Advanced Topics in Data Science. The workshop will conclude on July 4, 2023.
