CUPB outshines in International SCImago Institutions Rankings 2021

Bathinda: Owing to its commitment to serve society, science, innovation and research and state of Punjab, Scientists and teaching fraternity of Central University of Punjab has added another feather to its cap. CUPB has achieved a remarkable 53rd Rank in the University Category in ‘SCImago Institutions Rankings 2021’ (SIR-2021). SCimago is a research group from the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), University of Granada, Extremadura, Carlos III (Madrid) and Alcalá de Henares, dedicated to information analysis, representation, and retrieval by means of visualization techniques. Central University of Punjab has received its first international recognition under the dynamic leadership of Vice Chancellor, Prof. Raghvendra P Tiwari. It is pertinent to mention that CUP has already received 87th rank in NIRF earlier, which is highest among all newly established central universities in 2009.

In SIR-2021, SCImago has ranked more than 7500 academic and research-related institutions across the world based on three different set of indicators i.e. research performance, innovation outputs and societal impact. CUPB accorded with the Research Rank of ‘53’, Innovation Rank of ‘27’ and Societal Rank of ‘26’ in India in above three parameters. The University got an Overall Rank of ‘81’ among all Academic and Research-based Institutions in India, and 53rd Rank in Best Universities of India.

SCImago has published scientific output of all institutions into 19 different broad areas of knowledge in SIR-2021. CUPB outshines nationwide in these subject-wise rankings with 6th Rank in ‘Chemistry’, 18th Rank in ‘Pharmacology, Toxicology & Pharmaceutics’, and 19th Rank in ‘Environmental Science’ and 30th Rank in ‘Physics & Astronomy’. In addition to this, the university got 47th rank in ‘Medicine’, 81st rank in ‘Biochemistry, Genetics & Molecular Medicine’ and 83rd rank in ‘Agriculture & Biological Sciences’ subjects in ‘University Category’ in India.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari congratulated CUPB faculty, staff, scholars, and students for this outstanding achievement. He stated that this is a moment of pride that in SIR-2021 Edition, CUPB leads among all the newly established Central Universities of India. While dedicating this success to the hard work of faculty and students Prof. Tiwari mentioned that this accomplishment would encourage us to set new benchmarks.

It is worth mentioning that under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Tiwari, the University has achieved new heights in the field of education & research. The University made its mark among ‘Top 100 Best Universities of India’ in NIRF 2020 and among ‘Top 15 Best Central Universities of India’ in Outlook Icare 2020 Rankings. The performance of CUPB in SIR-2021 further validates the University’s commendable work in scientific research and innovation.

In SIR-2021, the state universities of Punjab such as Panjab University got conferred with 19th Rank, Guru Nanak Dev University got 45th rank, Punjabi University got 81st Rank, I.K Gujral Punjab Technical University got 99th Rank and Punjab Agriculture University got 107th Rank among University Category in India, being the youngest government funded university in the state, CUPB scored ‘53 rank’ is a remarkable achievement in this SCImago ranking.
