CUPB’s Dr. Ambedkar Centre of Excellence commenced free coaching classes to train Scheduled Castes students for the UPSC Civil Services Examination

Bathinda : The Dr. Ambedkar Centre of Excellence at the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) has commenced free coaching classes to train Scheduled Castes students for the Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Examination 2023. The free coaching is being offered under the aegis of the newly established Dr. Ambedkar Centre of Excellence (DACE) at the CUPB campus by the Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
In the Academic Inaugural Session of CUPB-DACE Mr. Showkat Ahmad Parray (IAS), Deputy Commissioner, Bathinda and Mr. J. Elanchezhian (IPS), Senior Superintendent of Police, Bathinda were the resource persnos of this programme.
At the outset, the programme organizers and distinguished guests pay floral tribute to the nation builder Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
The inaugural address of this programme was delivered by Mr. Showkat Ahmad Parray (IAS), Deputy Commissioner, Bathinda. He spoke on the topic of Indian Administrative Services: Status Symbol or Contribution to Nation Building. He stated that UPSC services provide an opportunity for an individual to serve society and contribute towards nation building. He further stated that the consideration of a civil servant’s designation as a status position is just our perception, which needs to be re-corrected. As the status depends on the services and social justice delivered by the concerned authority.
Mr. J. Elanchezhian (IPS), Senior Superintendent of Police, Bathinda, delivered a talk on Indian Police Services: Challenges and Opportunities. The distinguished speakers shared their experiences of preparation for the UPSC Exam. They motivated students to put in their sincere efforts and keep their enthusiasm high while preparing for the exam.
In the valedictory address, Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, the Vice-Chancellor, expressed his gratitude towards distinguished guests. He asserted that the students enrolled at CUPB-DACE would be provided specialized coaching by highly qualified faculty/external subject experts and would be given access to high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity, library access, etc. CUPB-DACE will play an important role in developing administrative capacity building among SC youngsters.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Prof. R.K. Wusirika, Dean Incharge of Academics. Dr. Vinod Arya, Nodal Officer, DACE-CUPB, shared the journey of the establishment of DACE at CUPB. He mentioned that the university has selected a total of 100 SC candidates through the National Level Entrance Examination for one-year free coaching for the preparation of UPSC’s Civil Services Examination. The selected students represent different states of India, with the majority of students belonging to Punjab. The coaching is designed to meet the requirements of the Civil Services Examination Preliminary and Mains Exams, with an emphasis on social sciences. Faculty, research scholars and CUPB-DACE students attended this programme.
