CUTN Inaugurates National Workshop on Research Methodology and Data Analysis
Dept of Economics, Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) hosts a ten-day National Workshop on “Research Methodology and Data Analysis Using Open-Source Software” for PhD and Post-Doctoral Fellows (PDF). Organized in collaboration with the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi, the workshop is designed to equip scholars with practical skills in managing, analysing, and interpreting data for their research projects.
Prof. M. Krishnan, Vice-Chancellor of CUTN, and Prof. B. Sudhakar Reddy, Honorary Director of ICSSR-SRC, inaugurated the 10-day National workshop. Prof. R. Thirumurugan, Registrar; CA G.R. Giridharan, Finance Officer; Prof. Sulochana Shekhar, Controller of Examinations; Prof. S. Ravi, Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities; Dr K. Damodaran, Head of the Department of Economics; and Prof. Rajagopal were present during the inaugural ceremony.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Krishnan emphasized the critical role of data accuracy and analysis in research. He encouraged participants to adopt an interdisciplinary approach, using data-driven insights to devise solutions for societal challenges. The Vice-Chancellor congratulated Dr Kappa Kondal and Dr Kuldeep Singh Nagi, Assistant Professors in the Department of Economics, for curating and organising the workshop.
Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Sudhakar Reddy highlighted the evolving landscape of research methodology, particularly in the social sciences. He stressed the increasing influence of artificial intelligence in data analysis and underscored the importance of selecting innovative, socially relevant research topics. Prof. Reddy also commended CUTN for its initiative and applauded ICSSR’s commitment to narrowing the skill gap in research methodology.
The workshop has drawn participation from 30 scholars, selected from over 520 applicants, with attendees representing various states across India.
