Cyber Security Awareness Programme Held

Aligarh : Aligarh Muslim University Unit of National Service Scheme (NSS) organized a cyber security awareness programme.

The Chief Guest, Prof Syed Ali Nawaz Zaidi, Faculty of Law, AMU discussed different types of cyber crimes faced by the victims through financial bank fraud calls, OTP sharing, QR code. He also talked about online harassment, trolling and blackmailing.

Miss Neelam Sharma, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Cyber Crime), Aligarh said that if anyone gets fake calls or messages regularly, then without any delay he/she should make an emergency call to 1930 or register a complaint on cybercrime.govt.in.

Mr. Samar Pal Singh, Sub-inspector, guided the students on how the culprits of cyber crime use technology to scan the victim’s mobile phone and how to safeguard ourselves from these types of cyber crimes. Miss Kusumlata, Sub-inspector advised not to share personal details on unknown websites or on social media platforms, while Miss Manisha (Cyber Crime Police official) made the students aware about the fake IDs on social media platforms.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Gaurav Varshney, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Law, AMU shared the data of surveys which showed that mostly the victims of cyber crimes are teenagers, old aged people and women. He emphasized that every individual should possess the knowledge and understanding of cyber security in today’s digital age.

Dr. Tabassum Choudhary, Faculty of Law, AMU, the Special Guest of the programme discussed the Information and Technology Act, 2000 which contains the penal provisions for cyber crimes. She also gave an overview of the online cyber threats like malware and phishing attacks.

The Convenor of the programme Dr. Arshad Husain, Associate Professor, University Polytechnic, AMU and The Co-convenor of the programme Dr. Suhalia Parveen, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, AMU also spoke on the occasion and expressed their gratitude to all the dignitaries.

The programme was conducted by Ms. Divya Sharma, M.I.R.M. Student, Department of Commerce, AMU, while Mr. Akhil Kaushal, student of B.A.LL.B. (Hons) delivered the welcome address and vote of thanks.
