Danfoss India join hands with CII- SR Water Alliance to restore dying water bodies in & around Chennai

Chennai: Danfoss India, an industry leader focused on climate and energy efficient solutions has partnered with the Confederation of Indian Industry – Southern Region (CII-SR) for the “CII-SR Water Alliance” project, to restore waterbodies in and around Chennai. The first phase of this project commenced today at the Vembakkam Pond, Kanchipuram district and was launched in the presence of Dr. K. Deepa Mala, Director and Head – Development Initiative, Confederation of Indian Industry – Southern Region and Mr. Ravichandran Purushothaman, President – Danfoss India.

Commenting on the occasion, Ravichandran Purushothaman said, “With our vision of ‘Engineering Tomorrow’s India’, we are always working towards a greener and sustainable tomorrow, keeping in mind the needs of our future generations. Through this initiative, we seek to give back to the society by providing the local communities access to a clean and usable water source and educate them on the importance of preserving water bodies.”

In its first phase, Danfoss will be working towards the restoration of waterbodies near its Oragadam Campus beginning with the Vembakkam Pond. The project includes various phases like current state analysis of the waterbody, removal of physical debris, desilting, bund strengthening and proactive fencing and periodic review, in association with CII and related subject matter experts. In 2015, over 1500 tonnes of waste was removed during the clean-up from the pond, with combined efforts by Danfoss employee volunteers and villagers.

A member of UN Global Compact, Danfoss has always been committed to the environment and has been undertaking several CSR & Sustainability initiatives over the years. The company has also been actively engaged in several green campaigns and activities that reduce carbon footprints in and around the campus.
