Dawakhana Tibbiya College (DTC), Aligarh Muslim University organised a one-day Health Summit

ALIGARH: The Dawakhana Tibbiya College (DTC), Aligarh Muslim University organised a one-day Health Summit to create awareness surrounding prominent health issues. The summit was held at the Conference Hall of Administrative block.

In his presidential remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Mohammad Gulrez praised the initiative taken by Prof Salma Ahmed, member in charge, Dawakhana Tibbiya College, and Mr Mohd Shariq Azam, Officiating General Manager, Dawakhana Tibbiya College.

The chief guest, eminent Anaesthesiologist and Critical Care physician, Padma Bhushan Dr Brijendra Kumar Rao, who is currently the Chairman, Department of Critical Care Medicine, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, emphasise a holistic approach towards health over allopathic treatment alone. He also elaborated on the role and contribution of Unani medicine.

Prof Salma Ahmed, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies and Research, and Member-in Charge, DTC, welcomed the guests and participants and said that the objective of the health summit was to set an agenda for a healthier future by creating awareness amongst one and all.

Prof Asif Hasan, Dr Tabrezuz Zaman and Dr Nafis Faizi were the resource persons who conducted three sessions.

Dr Tabrezuz Zaman (Department of Hospital and Hospice Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia) emphasised the preventive measures to mitigate health issues and elaborated on the importance of managing mental health and stress, especially technostress, in current lifestyles, to avoid any illness arising from it.

Prof Asif Hasan, Chairman, Department of Cardiology, JNMC, AMU, talked about the causes and symptoms of cardio-vascular diseases (CVD) and focused especially on its most recent and rising victims, the youth. He also highlighted the issues faced by women due to which their heart ailments remain undetected or unresolved.

Dr Nafis Faizi (Department of Community Medicine, JNMC) talked about communicable and non-communicable diseases (NCDs), their causes, symptoms and cure. He highlighted recent trends related to such diseases and suggested morbidity to be a bigger problem in NCDs and mortality in communicable diseases.

The inaugural ceremony was conducted by Ms Tooba Fatma Bilgrami and vote of thanks was extended by Ms Zia Rizvi. The technical session was hosted by Ms Sania Khan, and Ambrin Shakir.
