DC inaugurates Jal Shakti Kendra at Udhampur
UDHAMPUR:To achieve the desired results with regard to water conservation, adopt best practices and to deliver the key objective of the campaign launched by Prime Minister of India under the theme “Catch the Rain” Where it falls When it falls, Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur Indu Kanwal Chib today inaugurated Jal Shakti Kendra here under Jal Shakti Abiyaan of National Water Mission, Ministry of Jal Shakti Department GOI.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that the main objective of opening of Jal Shakti Kendra is to generate awareness among the general public and all stakeholders regarding water conservation /preservation methods including rain water harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies/tanks, reuse and recharge of bore wells preservation and judicious use of water.
The DC reiterated that Udhampur will be the first district of Jammu and Kashmir UT to establish Jal Shakti Kendra. The DC urged the general public of the district to develop water saving habits and use the precious natural resources judiciously to save it for future generations. She stressed on the need to adopt Rain water harvesting including Roof Top Rain Water Harvesting, percolation pits, check dams, diversion drains, road side drains to conserve rain water for subsequent use in different activities. A team of dedicated staff has been provided for Jal Shakti Kendra and a web page has also been developed by NIC Udhampur showcasing major details of various important activities being carried out by different departments.
Among others, Chief Planning Officer, Rajeev Bhushan, SE PWD, Shakti Sagar, SE PHE, S K Raina, PO IWMP, Sapna Kotwal, ACD, Mushtaq Chowdhary and other officers of different department were present on the occasion.
