Kathua : Deputy Commissioner Kathua Om Prakash the other day chaired the first ever meeting of District Level Committee on Narco Coordination Centre( NCORD) here at DC Office complex.
The District Level Committee is mandated to effect better coordination among all the drug law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders to keep a check on drug trafficking and related issues.
The meeting discussed in length the challenges and need for opting multi-pronged strategies to check the drug menace and laying down mechanisms to contain it.
The Deputy Commissioner called upon the stakeholder departments and agencies to educate people through awareness programmes at different levels. He called upon the officers to make coordinated efforts and ensure prompt sharing of inputs within all enforcement units besides timely action against defaulters. Taking steps to engage youth in Sports and other co curricular activities will also help to channelize their energies in a better way, DC added.
The modalities for setting up De-addiction/ Rehabilitation center was also discussed during the meeting.
The committee was also of the view that monitoring of Drug Trafficking, illicit growing of weeds, drug abuse besides taking vigilant efforts to check Cross Border, inter-State and intra-State drug trafficking will help in creating deterrence.
SSP Kathua, Shailendra Mishra informed that a dedicated anti-drug unit of Police is working to track the drug trafficking modules besides tracing their source.
Zonal Director of Narcotics Control Bureau, Jammu, Dy Excise Commissioner Jammu, CO 19Bn BSF, CO 173 Bn, SDM Hiranagar, CMO, AC Drugs and other concerned were also present.
