DC welcomes Shanti Yatra at Ramban; Scores of local Students join peace rally

JAMMU : Deputy Commissioner, Ramban Musarat Islam, along with public representatives and senior officers, today welcomed the Shanti Yatra taken out as a part of month-long Ghandhi Jayanti celebrations being celebrated as Gandhi Mahotsav.

At the welcome ceremony, the Deputy Commissioner received the ‘Shanti Chinh’ symbol of love, peace and non-violence.

DDC Councillor, Renuka Katoch; Councillor MC, Khalid Wani; Chief Education Officer, Dev Anand; ZEO, Firdous Ahmed; ZEO, Batote Shakeel Ahmed and other officers and social activists participated in the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that the unique yatra will spread the message of true peace and non-violence among the students as well as the general public. He added that this historic step will also generate awareness about our glorious history among the school children and the local people.

Appreciating the Education department, especially students, for presenting a colourful cultural programme, the DC asked them to participate in this Yatra and Gandhi Mahotsav with full zeal and vigour as this will help instil the spirit of nationalism and also nurture their patriotism.

Speaking on the occasion, the CEO highlighted the major activities to be carried out under Gandhi Mahotsav across the district.

Notably under Gandhi Mahotsav programme, and Nasha Mukt Bharat, series of events will be organised throughout the month and Shanti Yatra is part of that Mahotsav.

Shanti Yatra which reached Ramban yesterday will travel through all the 10 districts of Jammu Division covering a distance of more than 1000 KM and involve 450 plus schools in its entire journey, spreading Gandhi’s message of love, truth, peace and non-violence.
