DDC chairs meeting regarding preservation of water bodies in Anantnag

Anantnag: The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Anantnag, K.K. Sidha today convened a meeting of officers regarding Conservation of water bodies under convergence mode.
The meeting discussed identification and preservation of water bodies including springs, ponds and streams in the district and within municipal areas and restoring them to their erstwhile pristine glory.
It was stated in the meeting that all the water bodies will be taken up for quick restoration in priority.
The DDC said that restoration of water bodies would go a long way in averting floods and ensuring smooth supply of water for irrigation and drinking water purposes.
Addressing the meeting, the DDC directed the concerned officers of Jal Shakti, Watershed Management, Soil Conservation, Social Forestry, Revenue, Horticulture, Agriculture and RDD for initiating sustained anti encroachment drive for restoring original shape and size of water bodies.
He said encroaching water bodies constituted grave offence for which encroachers need to be dealt sternly and directed the officers to submit the concrete list of water bodies till 30th of September 2020 so that appropriate measures are taken for the restoration of these water bodies.
The meeting was attended by ADC Gulzar Ahmad Bhat, ACD and other officers of the line departments.
