DDC Kupwara reviews Action points regarding ‘Jal Shakti Abiyan’

 

Kupwara: The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kupwara, Imam Din today convened a meeting of concerned officers to discuss the Action points regarding Jal Shakti Abhiyan- “Catch the Rain” campaign.

The meeting discussed threadbare various points to achieve the target under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan and officers were directed to implement the guidelines of the Abhiyan within the stipulated time.

The DDC asked the concerned officers for setting up the Jal Shakti Kendras and formulation of scientific action plan with the involvement of departments like Rural Development Department, Forest, Integrated Watershed Management Project (IWMP), Youth Services & Sports, Irrigation & Flood Control, Soil Conservation and Municipal Committee.

The DDC directed the preparation of GIS based maps/ inventories and geo-tagging of all water bodies and water resources in the district. He further directed the formulation of a scientific action plan for maintenance and creation of rain water harvesting structure to ensure better utilization of rain water and less dependence on groundwater.

The DDC also fixed timeline for achievement of targets by November 30, this year to renovate and upgrade the existing water structures/ ponds, de-silting of existing water structures, construction of new water structures/ ponds wherever required.

Action plan for upgradation/ renovation/ de-silting of Gam Khuls, shall be formulated by the ACD Kupwara in consultation with PRIs.

The DDC also stressed for holding of special Gram Sabhas in every panchayat by April 10, this year with the direction that top priority shall be given to works related to conservation and preservation of water bodies.

JD Planning, District Panchayat Officer, District Youth Services & Sports Officer, concerned Executive Engineers, BDOs and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.
