DDC reviews Solid Waste Management process in town areas

Doda: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Dr Sagar D Doifode, today reviewed the Solid Waste Management (SWM) in the town areas of the district here at a meeting of District Level Task Force (DLTF).
The meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer, Chief Medical Officer, District Pollution Control Board officer and Executive Officers of Municipal Committee Doda, Bhaderwah and Thathri.
While reviewing the status of door to door waste collection, the DDC was informed that MC Bhaderwah has achieved 100% coverage in all wards of the Municipal area, while in Doda township the door to door collection is being ensured in 8 wards.
The DDC stressed on aiming the 100% collection of waste that too in the segregated manner across the district, besides he directed to expedite the awareness and SLRM activities in Bhaderwah so that the municipality can be declared as “Roadside Bin Free town” in the coming days.
Taking serious note of plastic waste generation, the DDC directed the Pollution control board to carry out mass level drive against the single use of plastic and impose heavy penalties on the erring shopkeepers.
While reviewing the collection of bio medical waste in the health institutions, the DDC was informed by the CMO that bio medical waste is collected in segregated manner as per the set guidelines in GMC Associated District Hospital and 3 CHCs of Thathri ,Bhaderwah and Gandoh. The DDC directed to ensure that same is done at all PHCs.
Reviewing the status of land identification for construction of Solid waste management plant at Thathri, the DDC directed the EO and District Officer PCB to pursue the matter with the SDM sort out the issue on priority basis.
