DDC Samba discusses plan for restoration of water bodies

Samba: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Samba, Rohit Khajuria, today convened a meeting of district officers to discuss the plan for identification, protection and restoration of water bodies under convergence mode.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Suram Chand Sharma; Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Jitender Mishra; Assistant Commissioner Development, Sidarth Dhiman; Sub Divisional Magistrate, Ghagwal, Ramkesh Sharma ; Sub Divisional Magistrate, Vijaypur, Chander Parkash Kotwal, beside Tehsildars and other officers of the line departments were also present.

The meeting discussed identification, protection and restoration of water bodies including springs, ponds and streams in the district and within municipal areas.

The DDC said that restoration of water bodies would go a long way in averting floods and ensuring smooth supply of water for irrigation and drinking purposes. He directed the concerned officers of Jal Shakti, Watershed Management, Soil Conservation, Social Forestry, Revenue, Horticulture, Agriculture and RDD for initiating sustained anti encroachment drive for restoring original shape and size of water bodies. He said encroaching water bodies is a grave offence for which encroachers need to be dealt sternly.

He directed the officers to submit a comprehensive list of water bodies at the earliest so that appropriate measures are taken for their restoration.
