DDMA Baramulla Organizes Webinar on ‘Disaster Risk Management’

J&K State Emergency Operation Center today organized a webinar on ‘Disaster Risk Management’ in which a glaxy of resource persons including officers/officials of several departments among some imminent stakeholders of some NGOs participated.

Webinar was inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Mohammad Ahsan Mir wherein a panel of speakers comprising Er. Aamir Ali Mir, Director Disaster Management, Prof Pervez Ahmad, Department of Geography and DM, Dr. JS Bhatia, Prof. Disaster Management, Desh Bhagat University threw light on various related aspects associated with the programme.

Moreover, the webinar was moderated by Bilquees Dar and Mohmad Suhail Wani, Consultants JKSEOC along with Shahzad Ahmad, incharge DM Cell Baramulla.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of DDMA complimented the participants for showing their enthusiastic participation and said that all the stakeholders of DDMA have always worked in close coordination while tackling issues in a better way. He highlighted the role of various stakeholders and said that a coordinated and joint approach is the only viable and effective way out while dealing with the disasters properly. ADC also emphasized upon awareness dissemination at grass root level so that more and more volunteers are included into it’s range of operations.

Er. Aamir Ali Mir briefly discussed the vulnerability scenario of the district and acknowledged the achievements of DDMA Baramulla in contributing to the overall Disaster Management. He also said that DDMA Baramulla are always at the forefront in implementing the guidelines that are issued from time to time.

Prof Pervez Ahmad, in his address discussed the Disaster Risk Management that was the main theme of the webinar. He said that investing in Disaster risk is the main sector that can help regions in reducing potential losses. He also said that plans need to be specific to all departments and at all levels with focus on sustainable development. He further added that Community Based Disaster Risk Management is very much important in tackling the disasters at the grass root level.

Prof. J S Bhatia through his presentation focused on the national vulnerability and linked it with the regional vulnerability of J&K. He mentioned various preventive measures that could be taken on time to prevent any mishap. He said that unplanned development works lead to hybrid disasters.
