Debate and Quiz Competition held at AMU Schools under G-20 Series of Events

 

Aligarh: The schools of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organised several events and competitions under the G-20 series of programmes where students celebrated India’s G20 presidency and spread the message of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’.

The STS School (Minto Circle) of AMU organised an Inter-School Debate Competition in Junior and Senior Categories on topics “Over dependence on electronic devices is affecting innate creativity of teenagers” and “Individuals than Corporations are more at Fault For Climate Change” in Audio Visual Lab of the school. The students from all AMU Schools participated in the competition.

The objective of the English Debate competition was to create awareness regarding the G20 Summit and the topics of the debate were selected according to the agenda of G20 Summit. The students presented their views in favour and against the given topics.

Addressing the programme as chief guest, Prof. Asfar Ali Khan, Director, school education, AMU highlighted the importance of G20 summit in India and emphasised on creating awareness regarding G20 agenda and themes.

Dr. Safia Akhtar Kazmi, Associate Professor, Electrical Engineering, ZHCET, AMU, and Dr. Sadaf Fareed, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Women’s College, AMU judged the debate competition.

Mr. Faisal Nafis, Principal, STS School and Co-ordinator of organizing committee of AMU Schools (G-20 Summit) congratulated the winners for their active participation. He said “it is a proud moment for us that India is leading the G20 Summit and it is a watershed moment in the history of the country.

In the junior category, Master Mohammad Saad of STS School, Master Mayank Chaudhary, and Master Mohd Kaif of AMU ABK High School-Boys bagged the first, second and third prize respectively. Master Arun Kumar of Ahmadi School for the Visually Challenged received the consolation prize.

In the senior category Master Manya Gupta of STS School got the first position, while Master Ayaz Abdullah of STS School, and Master Yusuf Raza of Saiyyid Hamid Senior Secondary School (Boys) received the second and third prize respectively.

Dr. Tanweer Husain Khan and Mr. Malik Mohd Arshad guided the students in preparation. In the end Ms. Nasreen Fatima, Cultural Coordinator of STS School proposed a vote of thanks. The programme was conducted by Mrs Ghazala Tanvir.

Similarly, the RMPSA AMU City School organised an inter-school quiz competition to mark the G20 Presidency of India.

Five schools including the Senior Secondary School Girls, STS School, ABK High School, AMU Girls School and host RMPS AMU City School took part in the event.

Principal Mr. Tanveer Nabi welcomed the guests.

Prof. Asfar Ali Khan, the chief guest of the event highlighted the importance of the competition by saying that “this event provided the students an opportunity to know about the G20 countries of the world and it is our privilege to host this event”.

The competition was completed in three rounds, Quiz, Scene/Score and Rapid Fire. In all the three rounds, RMPS AMUY City School stood first with 105 marks while Senior Secondary School Girls stood second with 90 marks and Syedna Tahir Saifuddin School stood third with 80 marks. ABK High School stood fourth with 75 marks and AMU Girls’ School stood fifth with 50 marks.

The jury of quiz competition included Prof. Fazl Ur Rehman, Prof. Anwar Shehzad, Mr. Shahid Jalil and Mr. Mohd. Shaukat Ansari. The technical team consisted of Mohd Shoeb, Mohd Faizan and Azim Baig.

The programme was coordinated by Mrs. Anwar Sultana and Dr. Fayyazuddin proposed the vote of thanks.

The quiz rounds were conducted by Dr. Mohd Rizwan Alam and Mr Saeed Anwar. Mr Naeem, Mohd Iqbal, Afsar Ali and Dr. Zulfikar were present on the occasion.
