Debate competition held to mark Sir Syed Day
ALIGARH : The S.T.S. School (Minto Circle), Aligarh Muslim University organized an inter-school debate competition under the Sir Syed Day celebrations, with the participants expressing their views for an against the motion, “Technology is making us more connected as a society“.
Ayaz Abdullah of S.T.S. School won the first prize while the second prize was shared by Manya Gupta of S.T.S. School and Mugdha of AMU ABK High School (Girls). The third prize was shared by Faizur Rehman of RMPS AMU City School and Areeba Parvez of AMU Girls‘ School.
Welcoming the participants and judges, the Principal of the School, Mr Faisal Nafees said that the competition served as a reminder of the value of informed discussion, respectful argumentation and unbiased pursuit of knowledge, advocated by Sir Syed. He congratulated the winners and appreciated the efforts of the other participants, adding that such events provide an excellent platform for students to develop critical thinking, public speaking and analytical skills in students.
The event was judged by Dr. Mohd. Saquib Abrar and Dr. Yasmeen Ansari from Department of English.
Mrs. Uzma Khan helped the students in preparation, while Ms. Lubna Rubab extended a vote of thanks and Mrs. Ghazala Tanvir conducted the programme.
