DPS Rohini celebrates Annual Day with Millet Moods: A Metaphor in Melody
Delhi Public School Rohini organized its Annual Day, ‘Millet Moods: A Metaphor in Melody’ on 25 November 2023, to celebrate the International Year of Millets, as recognized by the United Nations and Food & Agriculture Organization.
The programme commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp to invoke the blessings of the Almighty. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Shri B. K. Chaturvedi, Chairman, DPS Society. Mrs. Namita Pradhan, Chairperson, DPS Rohini was the Guest of Honour. Special Guests were Shri Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Dept. of School Education & Literacy, GoI and Dr Tarun Bajaj, Director, APEDA, GoI.
Principal Mrs. Kanika Sachdeva Govi, in her address, expressed gratitude to all present and informed the gathering about the interweaving of the concepts of millets and moods, traditions and cultures, perspectives and melody into a harmonious presentation. She also highlighted the importance of mindfulness, urging students to be conscious of their actions and resist the undue influence of social media. In her insightful remarks, the principal emphasised the need for acceptance of differences and encouraged everyone to embrace change wholeheartedly.
The Annual Report titled – ‘Milestones and Memories: Emotions Recollected in Tranquillity’, showcased the school’s achievements in the session 2022-2023 session, promising even greater milestones in future.
Guest of Honour, Mrs. Namita Pradhan, in her inspiring address, emphasised that ‘Millet Moods’ is not merely a celebration but a reflection of a progressive school that embraces diversity in thought and action. She added that Millets, like Yoga are India’s gift to the world and that we must be the guarding custodians of the same. She expressed heartfelt admiration for the Principal’s innovative and distinctive approach, commending her remarkable ability to catalyse profound transformation.
The release of the Annual Day brochure – ‘Delectables’, provided an insight into the meticulous preparations and creative processes that brought the event to life. The publication featured an exclusive interview with Millet Man of India, Padamshri, Dr. Khadar Valli and also offered a collection of tantalizing Millet recipes.
The Special Guest Shri Sanjay Kumar expressed heartfelt appreciation for the remarkable efforts of the Principal Mrs. Kanika Sachdeva Govi, the school staff, and students. He added that the thematic incorporation of millets in the presentation as a metaphor is a unique idea, and insisted on collective responsibility to nurture values, mindfulness, and acceptance.
The grand spectacle of the Annual Day celebration reached its zenith with the mesmerising performance, Millet Moods: A Metaphor in Melody. The theatrical presentation, staged by over 500 students, was a visual treat that unfolded the beauty and significance of millets. Rooted in the school’s ethos of gratitude, inclusivity, environmental mindfulness, and mental well-being, ‘Millet Moods’ became a living testament to the school’s commitment to a profound and purpose-driven education. The performance of the students left the audience in awe and encouraged the fostering of a deeper appreciation for the cultural and nutritional richness of millets.
The Chief Guest, Shri B. K Chaturvedi in his address appreciated the school’s efforts in providing holistic education and commended the choice of millets as the theme for the Annual Day. He expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the seamless execution of the theatrical performance. Shri. Chaturvedi opined that the thematic presentation was an outstanding showcase of creativity, innovation, and social consciousness and effectively communicated the messages on accepting diversity, and embracing inclusivity. He also encouraged the students to strive for excellence by making conscious efforts to nurture environmental mindfulness and embrace a more sustainable and healthier lifestyle.
The programme concluded with the National Anthem in Sign Language, emphasising the school’s commitment to inclusivity.
