Dental camp organized to mark Sir Syed Day celebrations

 

ALIGARH  : The Department of Periodontia and Community Dentistry, Dr Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College (ZADC), Aligarh Muslim University organized a dental camp at Khadija Public School, marking the Sir Syed Day celebrations.

Addressing the occasion, Prof Afshan Bey said that inspired by the timeless words of Sir Syed that “the true object of education should be the cultivation of the intellect and the training of the mind for the acquisition of useful knowledge,” the dental camp aimed at fostering oral health awareness among the young minds of Khadija Public School.

A dedicated team of dentists, including Prof Neha Agrawal, Dr Afaf Zia, Dr Pramod Kumar Yadav and Dr Syed Amaan Ali, along with the postgraduates, Interns and dental hygienists from the department, screened 264 children for dental health issues. Personalized oral hygiene instructions were also given to them ensuring a hands-on approach to dental education.

Children diagnosed with dental decay and other oral health issues were referred to Dr ZA Dental College for further treatment, ensuring comprehensive care for every child in need.

As part of the initiative, the organizing committee distributed toothpaste (by Indoco Remedies Ltd (Warrer Nxzen) and ICPA) and writing notebooks to the children.

Prof Vivek Kumar Sharma, Chairman of the department, emphasized the significance of dental camps to reach the unreached and create awareness about dental hygiene. He stated that such initiatives align with Sir Syed’s vision of holistic education that encompasses both intellectual and practical aspects.

Prof R K Tiwari, Principal, ZADC, congratulated the organizing team for their successful endeavour and expressed institution’s commitment to community support programmes.
