Department of Adult Continuing Education and Extension, University of Delhi organizes national level skill convention on transgender

New Delhi : Transgender Resource Center, Department of Adult Continuing Education and Extension, University of Delhi has organized a national level skill convention on transgender persons on 20 th June 2022.

The session was being inaugurated by the welcome speech of Professor  Rajesh,  welcome speech  was followed by the national anthem. Many transgender community members were also part of this program. Dr Vikas Gupta, registrar   University of Delhi was also there.  Dean of colleges Dr. Balram Pani was also there to share his views on the inclusion of the transgender community in society through Trans Act 2019.

Professor Rajesh, Head of the Department  also shared his views on mainstreaming of gender variant people. The program was divided  into  many subsections, there was a panel discussion on transgender  act 2019 , the discussion was carried out by transgender activists Amrita  Sarkar,  Vikram  Aditya Sahai, and Devika Devendra ( India’s first transgender kathak dancer),  founder of Aarohan Ngo Rani Patel. Over 200 people were part of this program. 100 community members were also there. This skill convention was being organized in collaboration of DSACS,  pehchan, CET. The panel discussion was followed by classical dance performances , singing, and a fashion show by transgender persons. A small workshop was also organized on skill development, the workshop was moderated by freelance journalist  Kabir Mann  (transman).

The session was very fascinating and informative as well as the discussion reveals the lacunas still existing in our society. Transgender activists urge the students and scholars to came forward and accept the community  as their fellow, peers and most importantly as one of them.

Panel discussion was concluded with the recommendation that  society  needs  awareness  towards gender sensitivity. This program was organized  by the efforts  of research scholars  Siddhant Singh,  Akanksha Singh,  Vishal Kumar Gupta, Gaurav,  Jyoti,  Anuja . It was resolved that an international program will be organized in the month of October, under the centenary year of the university to empower the transgender community.
