Department of Amraz-e-Jild wa Zohrawia organises Cancer awareness workshop

Aligarh : The Department of Amraz-e-Jild wa Zohrawia, Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised a cancer awareness workshop, about cancer prevention and early detection.

The event evoked an overwhelming response, as participants, delegates, and volunteers from the American Oncology Institute attended the event. It emphasized the significance of global collaboration in cancer awareness.

The programme commenced with the symbolic lighting of the Cancer Awareness Torch, followed by a cancer awareness march led by Mr. Mohammad Imran IPS, Registrar of AMU, and Dr. Mohammad Mohsin, Chairman of the Department. The Postgraduate students of the faculty attended the march.

The chief guest Mr. Mohammad Imran IPS lauded the department’s initiative and stressed the importance of educating both doctors and the general public about new prevention strategies. He also praised the contribution of the American Oncology Institute and their collaborative efforts in advancing cancer care.

The keynote speaker Prof. Anis Ismail, a renowned surgeon and former Chairman of the Department of Jarahat at AKTC, presided over the inaugural session. He elaborated on various types of cancers, particularly those that are preventable. He advocated for early detection as a critical factor in saving lives and facilitating better treatment outcomes.

Dr. Mohammad Mohsin, the Organizing Secretary of the workshop, welcomed the dignitaries and expressed gratitude to the volunteers of the American Oncology Institute for their invaluable support. He encouraged the students, especially female participants, to actively engage in the discussions and learn from the experts.

Prof. Zamir Ahmad, the Organizing Chairman, presented the Unani aspects of cancer treatment, exploring the potential role of Unani medicine as an adjunct to conventional cancer therapies. His insights sparked meaningful discussions on integrative approaches to cancer care.

The workshop featured talks from distinguished experts such as Dr. Mohsin Raza, a renowned nonagenarian reconstructive surgeon, who provided in-depth insights on oral cancers related to pan masala and gutkha consumption, as well as breast cancer.

Dr. Farrukh Anwar, Head of Radiodiagnosis at the American Oncology Institute, discussed cervical cancer, its prevention, early detection, and modern therapeutic approaches.

A special session was dedicated to female students, doctors, and volunteers, focusing on self-breast examination techniques and the importance of early detection through manual screening.

The workshop was attended by numerous dignitaries, including faculty members, postgraduate students, Prof. Ubaidullah Khan, Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine and Prof B.D. Khan, Principal, Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College.

On the occasion, the whole amount of the registration fee received from the delegates was donated to the Oncology Institute for their noble cause to society. Dr Mohammad Mohsin and Mr. Mohammad Imran IPS presented the amount to Dr Mohsin Raza.
