Department of Handicrafts & Handloom organises two day exhibition at Anantnag

 

ANANTNAG : As part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (Vanijia Saptah), Department of Handicrafts and Handloom Anantnag organised a two day exhibition, here.

Briefing about the achievements of the department, Assistant Director Handicrafts and Handloom, Muqbil Lateef Hussain said that the department has been catering to the needs of artisans working in diverse crafts since its inception.

Imparting training to womenfolk in trades like crewal, Gabba, chain stitch, sozni, zari etc, organising exhibition and trade fairs, providing platform to the craftsman, fulfilling financial needs of artisans under credit card scheme besides revival of old trades are prime concerns of the department, he remarked.

The AD informed that more than 22500 artisans and 337 units have been registered till date with six state awardees from the district. Besides, 28 training centres are running smoothly where 14298 trainees have completed training in different trades/crafts, he added.

On the occasion, various stalls were erected to display and showcase different products of the department.

Officials of the department, and a large number of local artists and artisans also participated in the exhibition.
