Department of Home Science Orientation program

Aligarh : Newly admitted students in the courses of BSc and MSc in Home Sciences were given an overview of academic expectations to better prepare them for challenges of collegiate academics in the Orientation Program of the Department of Home Science, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

Acclimating students to their new surroundings, Prof Farzana Alim (Chairperson, Department of Home Sciences) urged students to make the best use of the facilities at AMU to train on all fundamental domains of their field.

She pointed out: Home science graduates and postgraduates are in great demand in the service industry, to look after housekeeping and food catering departments of hotels, tourist resorts and restaurants. They can also go for research and teaching jobs.

“A Home Science specialisation will provide the students with a myriad of career opportunities in the production, tourism and service and healthcare. Graduates and postgraduates of home science are also working as dieticians, nutritionists, resource management experts, teachers and researchers”, said Dr Saba Khan.

Dr Mariyam Fatima emphasised that across the globe, home science graduates and postgraduates are required to provide expertise in the areas of human development, food science, health and hygiene.

Dr Iram Aslam discussed the contents of various courses offered by the Department of Home Science and extended the vote of thanks.

Ms Zeba spoke on the history of Home Science and significance of household management.
