DEPARTMENT OF WOMEN AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT DELIVERS DRY RATIONS TO CHILDREN, PREGNANT LADIES AND LACTATING MOTHERS

Bathinda: While everything is closed due to the curfew imposed prevent the Coronaspread, the Department of Women and Child Development had provided dry rations to the infants, pregnant women and lactating mothers in the district with the aim to provide nutritious food to these. This information shared by the Deputy Commissioner Mr. B Sri Niwasan. He said that in two instalments the required food has been delivered to the houses of beneficiaries by the Anganwari workers and helpers. Under this dry ration has been distributed to a total of 43071 beneficiaries in the district.

While sharing further detail here today District Program Officer Mrs. Avtar Kaur said that her department was specially running Anganwaries to protect the young children from malnutrition where the children were provided food as well as immunization and schooling habits. Apart from this, the department also provided food to pregnant women and lactating mothers. “Due to curfew our Anganwaricenters were closed hence our department decided to provide meal at their doorstep,” she added.

District Program Officer further said that the department has provided home delivery of dry ration to 25684 children from 6 months to 3 years age group, 6989 children from 3 years to 6 years age group, 4688 pregnant women and 5710 lactating mothers. She said that under this scheme total of438 quintals of wheat, 477.5 quintals of rice, 346.6 quintals of sugar, 146.9 quintals of powdered milk, 357.5 quintals of panjiri and 4.4 quintals of ghee have been provided to the beneficiaries at their homes. “Apart from this, masks are also being prepared and distributed by the Anganwari workers at their own level,” she added.
