Dept of Mass Communication, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Ranked Fourth-Best in Outlook-ICARE Rankings

 

Aligarh : The Department of Mass Communication, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) continues to be one of the foremost and sought-after media studies institutions with its fourth rank in the recently released ‘Outlook-ICARE Rankings 2022’ rankings.

It has been ranked in the top five Institutes/Departments having government accreditation or affiliation in the countrywide survey on the key parameters of the selection process, academic excellence, infrastructure and facilities, personality development, industry exposure and job placement. The department recently set up a state-of-art film preview theatre, ‘Frank and Debbie Islam Auditorium’ besides having a three-camera studio.

Congratulating the faculty members and students, AMU Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mohamad Gulrez said: “Rankings matter because colleges and universities attract the cream of students if they are high on the list. The AMU community is proud as the university is proving its mettle with our various departments being ranked as top-notch hubs of knowledge in India”.

Researcher scholars and students attending AMU are being trained to become the best next-generation professionals, he added.

“Students prefer to study mass communications at AMU because our rank in various national and international surveys is directly linked to a higher quality of education and better employability. We try to impart knowledge to students with the optimum combination of theory and practice to choose a career from a plethora of exciting and rewarding options in TV, print and digital platforms, public relations and advertising”, said Prof Pitabas Pradhan (Chairman, Department of Mass Communication).

Senior faculty, Prof M Shafey Kidwai pointed out that the department has carved out a niche in both academic and professional spheres.

“Several eminent media persons including Parvez Alam (BBC), Saif Khalid (Aljazeera), Romana Asrar (ABP News), Anuj Kumar (The Hindu), Arfa Khanam (The Wire), Brijendra Prashar (The Hindustan Times), Sumaira Khan (TV 9), Poonam Sharma (Aaj Tak), Hina Zubair (TV18) and a couple of others are our alumni”, he emphasised.

The Department of Mass Communication at AMU offers innovative and diverse masters, PhD and postgraduate diploma programmes covering Convergent Journalism, TV News and Current Affairs Production, Film and Cultural Studies, Science and Health Communication and Media and Environment.
