Dept of Surgery organises ‘AMU Surgery Update 2021’

 

Aligarh: The Covid pandemic spiked the number of people waiting for elective surgeries and changed the medical postgraduate training experience in many ways across the country, but it couldn’t halt the indefatigable faculty and residents of the Department of Surgery, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) from accomplishing their tasks diligently.

The Department of Surgery has successfully organised the ‘AMU Surgery Update 2021’ programme in which experts provided a mix of theory lectures and practical case taking tips.

“Adept resource persons demonstrated procedures and techniques used in a variety of procedures from open to minimal access through pre-recorded videos. The programme was attended by delegates from across the country and various nations such as the UK, US, UAE, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan,” said Prof Syed Amjad Ali Rizvi (Chairman, Department of Surgery and Organising Chairman of the programme).

Prof Atia Zaka-ur-Rab (Organizing Secretary) said that the Surgery Update programme featured experts from New Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Pondicherry, Bihar, Orissa, and Meghalaya. Resource persons from UK and Bangladesh also deliberated on important surgery topics, with special emphasis on recent advances and current concepts.

“Prof Abhay Dalvi (President Association of Surgeons of India), Prof Sunil D Popat (President Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endo Surgeons), Professor Chintamani (President -American College of surgeons-India chapter), Prof Nisar Ahmad Chowdri (President Elect Association of Colorectal surgeons of India), Dr Deepraj Bhandarkar (President Elect Hernia Society of India), Prof Sandeep Kumar (editor in chief of Indian Journal of Surgery) and Prof Tamonas Chaudhuri delivered talks in the Surgery Update programme”, said the Joint Organising Secretaries, Dr Wasif M Ali, Dr Shabaz H Faridi and Dr Manzoor Ahmad.

Dr Md Yusuf Afaque was the Treasurer of the Surgery Update programme.
