Dept. of TB and Respiratory Diseases marks World TB Day
Aligarh : The Department of TB and Respiratory Diseases, J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University celebrated the World TB Day with a commitment towards the eradication of Tuberculosis. Led by Prof. Mohammad Shameem, Chairperson of the department, and Vice Chairperson of the State Task Force, the event commenced with the theme of this year’s World TB Day, “Yes! We Can End TB.”
Prof. Mohammad Shameem stressed the urgency of collective efforts to fulfill nation’s pledge of ending TB by 2025, in alignment with the National Strategic Plan 2017-2025. He announced the introduction of advanced diagnostic techniques like liquid culture, courtesy of the Department of Microbiology, to bolster TB detection and treatment at JNMC.
Dr. Nafees Ahmad Khan, Nodal Officer NTEP, applauded the dedication of NTEP staff, consultants, and residents in combating this relentless disease. Dr. Imrana Masood advocated for preventive measures against TB transmission, urging staff to educate patients and their families on cough etiquettes.
Dr. Shahzad Anwar underlined the significance of TB preventive treatment, an important strategy in the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program’s arsenal.
The event was attended by Medical Officers NTEP Dr. Atiya Roshan and Dr. Samia Kirmani, alongside consultants, residents, and NTEP staff.
In recognition of his service, Mr. Rajesh, Statistical Analyst, was honored as the Best NTEP Staff 2023-24 for his dedication and compassion towards TB patients.
In another event, the Rural Health Training Centre, Jawan, working under the management of Department of Community Medicine, J.N. Medical College, organized a Quiz competition to mark the World TB Day, under the guidance and supervision of Prof. Saira Mehnaz, Chairperson and Prof. Uzma Eram, Member-In-Charge, RHTC, Jawan.
The quiz was conducted in two phases, preliminary round and the final round, and out of the five teams that qualified for the final round; the first prize went to Deeksha Singh and Gauri Agrawal of Team Nikshay, second prize to Shristy Mittal and Siddhika Garg of Team RNTCP and third prize to Rahema Yousuf and Shereen Bushra of Team PCR.
Dr. Raghul S conducted the audiovisual round, Dr. Mohd Yasir Zubair (Senior Resident) conducted the MCQ round and Dr. Danish Kamal (Junior Resident) conducted the Rapid-Fire round.
Prof. M. Athar Ansari and Prof. Uzma Eram gave away the prizes to the winners.
