Deputy Directors Zhang Aijun and Zhang Baojuan of the Provincial People’s Congress Standing Committee Visit Nanjing University
On May 28, when Nanjing University celebrated its 122nd anniversary, members of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People’s Congress, including Vice Chairmen Zhang Aijun and Zhang Baojuan and Secretary-General Chen Jiangang, led a delegation of more than 130 people including responsible comrades and deputies of the municipal and county people’s congresses to inspect the Gulou Campus of Nanjing University.
Lu Yanqing, Vice President of Nanjing University, gave a report entitled “Striving for High-Level Scientific and Technological Self-reliance”, introducing the scientific and technological innovation of Nanjing University to the delegation.
Lu Yanqing pointed out in his report that Nanjing University has always been breathing with the times and sharing the fate with the nation, seeking the prosperity of the country and the progress of science. Generations of Nanjing University students have won glory for the country and benefited the people, and a large number of excellent scientific research results have emerged. Two years ago, General Secretary Xi Jinping wrote back to young scholars who returned from studying abroad at Nanjing University, encouraging them to “achieve greater success in adhering to moral education and promoting scientific and technological self-reliance and self-improvement”, which pointed out the direction for running a new era of Nanjing University with the support of Jiangsu Province and embarking on a new path to build a world-class university with Chinese characteristics and provided action guidance. Lu Yanqing introduced the basic situation of Nanjing University’s scientific and technological innovation from the aspects of discipline construction, team construction, platform construction, achievement transformation, and school-local cooperation. In recent years, Nanjing University has taken the “four aspects” as the guide, deepened the “three-in-one” scientific research innovation model with basic research as the root and extended to the creation of technology and achievement transformation, vigorously promoted organized scientific research, focused on solving the “stuck neck” problem, and continued to make major discoveries and important research progress in the fields of particle physics, new energy research, new materials research, earth science research, life health, space astronomy, etc. Currently, Nanjing University is implementing the “Strive Forward Action” and has specially formulated the “Action Plan for Comprehensively Supporting the New Practice of Chinese-style Modernization in Jiangsu”. The university will further strengthen its determination and confidence to take root in the fertile soil of Jiangsu to run schools and develop, and to do business and start businesses, shoulder the responsibility and mission of helping Jiangsu to take the lead and set an example, and create new situations and make new contributions in serving the country and Jiangsu.
On the same day, the delegation visited the Nanjing University History Museum, North Building, Xinren Building, John Rabe Memorial Hall and other places, and listened to the introduction of the basic situation of Nanjing University’s history, school development and other aspects.
