DH Poonch gets alternate road link; Civil Society hails District admin

Poonch: The provision of an alternate road link connecting District Hospital Poonch with the rest of city constructed by the district administration on the directions of Deputy Commissioner, Inder Jeet, has been widely welcomed by the local residents.

The earthwork of an alternate road was completed today by Public Works Department in presence of Tehsildar Haveli, Assistant Executive Engineer Police and members of Municipal Council Poonch.

As the clearance of road included removal of various structures that too in the heart of the city, sensing the sensitivity of the operation, the whole process was personally monitored by the Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner Revenue Zaheer Ahmed Kaifi.

The provision of alternate link was a long pending demand of the local residents as the existing road connecting the District Hospital to the main city witnessed heavy traffic jams causing delay and difficulty for patients and ambulances reaching the Hospital.

There was brewing resentment among the public over the inordinate delay in opening of an alternate route to ease congestion on the existing road due to huge influx of patients to the hospital .

While taking feedback from the general public two days back, Deputy Commissioner was briefed about the problems being faced by the commuters and pedestrians.

Sensing the importance of the issue, the DDC assured the public to resolve the problem at the earliest.

Subsequently Tehsildar Haveli was directed to get all the hurdles and construction removed so that a provision for an alternate road could be put in place. Following the directions a joint operation was carried out today which took around 11 hours and the earthwork of the road was completed.

The opening of the alternate route has eased the pressure on the existing road and will help the patients and residents of the city reach their destination without getting stuck in the traffic jam.

It was a long pending demand of the locals and several unsuccessful attempts were made in the past also to remove encroachments and open this road.

Meanwhile, several public delegations thronged the office of Deputy Commissioner by late evening and expressed their gratitude for doing this historical work.

They said that it was one of major issues of the city which was pending for last two decades. They offered all possible help to the administration for taking more bold steps to make Poonch a better city.

The delegates included Fareed Malik (Chairman Pir Panjal Awami Development front); Dr. Sarfaraz Mir (Chairman SEEM Poonch); S Surjan Singh (Gen Sec DGPC); Assad Nomani (Chairman sari Mastan welfare Foundation); Syed Nusrat Shah (Chairman SRK Global foundation); Abbas Malik (Chairman Hamdard Human Welfare Foundation); Parvez Malik (Ehsas Foundation); Prominent Social Activist Pardeep Khanna and others.
