Dhaka University to have a Hindi Chair soon: HC Riva Ganguly Das

Dhaka: Dhaka University will soon have a Hindi chair to facilitate honours level studies for students of Bangladesh. Speaking on the occasion of World Hindi Day in Dhaka on Sunday India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das said that the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) will soon appoint a Hindi teacher to the Chair after which teaching of Hindi will begin for Hindi honours course in the country to facilitate higher studies in Hindi in Bangladesh.

Speaking about the growing popularity of Hindi in the world High Commissioner said that Films, Radio, TV, mobile and internet have made Hindi immensely popular today. The UN has also started a weekly Friday bulletin in Hindi. Riva Ganguly Das said that Hindi has a glorious past and today it is recognised as an important language across the world due to its simplicity and richness of vocabulary.

The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC), High Commission of India celebrated the World Hindi Day in Dhaka on Sunday. It organised Hindi Poem recitation, Elocution and Speech competitions on the occasion. High Commissioner Riva Ganguly Das presented the awards to winners of the competition.
