Director Agriculture visits Uri, Baramulla

 

SRINAGAR : The Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal today visited sweet corn areas of North Kashmir’s Uri Sub-division of Baramulla.

During the visit, the Director convened a meeting of the officers and other stakeholders to discuss the different plans for the promotion and marketing of the sweet corn in the valley.

The Director said that a multidimensional marketing platform would be offered to the sweet corn growers for their socio economic transformation. He asked the concerned officers to identify 10 hectares of land in each zone of Uri for the promotion of sweet corn.

Iqbal assured the farmers that a joint team of department of agriculture, market leaders with whom the department has signed MOUs to facilitate market facilities of the farm produce within the Union Territory, National and major terminal markets will be visiting the sweet corn growing areas in the days to come.

He said that Uri is first where irrigated land has been brought under the cultivation of sweet corn which increases its taste, potential of production and productivity.

He reiterated and highlighted the importance of diversification of Agriculture. He said entrepreneurship in agriculture and allied wings is the only way forward for a prosperous, sustainable and developed agriculture sector.

Sub- Division Agriculture Officer Uri Tejpal Singh briefed the Director regarding the overall Agriculture scenario of the Sub Division.

Later, Director along with Joint Director Marketing Mohammad Qasim Gani paid a surprise visit to Seed Multiplication Farm Tappar Pattan and took stock of various activities and present scenario of Seed Production Farm.

He on the occasion interacted with the staff of the Farm and appreciated their work and dedication.
