Director General of FAO, Dr. Qu Dongyu, Visits Kaveri Seed Company Ltd, Recognizes its Significant Contribution to Indian Agriculture

 

Hyderabad  – The Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Dr. Qu Dongyu, along with a delegation from FAO, visited Kaveri Seed Company Ltd on June 15, 2023. The purpose of the visit was to observe the company’s Advanced Genomics Laboratory and gain insights into its ongoing Biotech programs.

Accompanying Dr. Qu Dongyu were esteemed FAO delegates, including Mr. Zhe Xiong, Assistant to the Director General; Mr. Takayuki Hagiwara, FAO Representative in India; Ms. Lilly Paul, Communication & Research Specialist; Mr. Konda Chavva, FAOR (Programme); and Mr. Dipesh Solanki, IT Specialist.

 

During the visit, Mr. G.V. Bhaskar Rao, Chairman and Managing Director of Kaveri Seed Company Limited, provided a comprehensive overview of the company to Dr. Qu Dongyu and the FAO delegates. Mr. Bhaskar Rao highlighted the significant contribution of Kaveri Seed Company to Indian agriculture and its role as the largest seed producer in India.

 

The discussion covered several key points, including the robust demand for agricultural products in domestic and international markets, the rapid growth of the Indian Seed Industry, and Kaveri Seed Company’s evolution over the last 40 years. Mr. Bhaskar Rao emphasized the company’s core competencies, such as its extensive industry experience, world-class infrastructure, strong research and development capabilities, and a robust supply chain.

 

Mr. Bhaskar Rao also shared the vision of Kaveri University, which aims to develop the next generation of global leaders in science and technology. The delegation had the opportunity to engage with key representatives of Kaveri Seeds, including Dr. G Pawan, Executive Director ; Mr. SP Rao, President of Supply Chain; Mr. Yogendra Verma, President of R&D; Dr. Praveen Rao, Vice-Chancellor of Kaveri University, and other company employees.

 

Expressing his views, Director General Dr. Qu Dongyu recognized the significant contributions of Kaveri Seeds to the green revolution and the farming community. He emphasized the importance of irrigation and quality seeds for farmers and acknowledged Kaveri Seeds’ crucial role in Indian agriculture. Dr. Qu Dongyu was highly impressed by the state-of-the-art labs and physical infrastructure at Kaveri Seeds. He commended Mr. G.V. Bhaskar Rao’s success story as an inspiration for the younger generation.
