Disadvantaged students receive gadgets for e-learning

Aligarh: Disruption caused by Covid-19 is no longer a hurdle for the girl students from lower-economic strata at the Department of Biochemistry, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). They are being provided with free laptops and mobile phones for access to online classes amid the pandemic.

At least 55 gadgets have been purchased with a generous contribution by the Aligarh Alumni Association, Greater Chicago (AMUAA-GC), USA. The Association donated Rs 19 lakhs for the purchase of laptops and smart phones to provide the needy girl students of the department with technology mediated and digitally empowered learning during the Covid pandemic.

These gadgets were distributed personally and through insured courier services in three phases, said Prof Mohammad Tabish (Chairman, Department of Biochemistry).

Extending gratitude to AMUAA-GC Chairman, Dr Ateeq Ahmad and President, Nargis Jahan for the munificent grant, Prof Tabish added that it is the need of the hour to support students from marginalised sections.

The needy students were identified on the basis of the screening of their online Google forms.
