Disaster management preparedness reviewed in Reasi

Reasi: Disaster management preparedness was today reviewed here at a meeting of District Disaster Management Authority convened by Chairperson DDMA (Deputy Commissioner) Indu Kanwal Chib.
The meeting reviewed the District Disaster Management Plan & preparedness of various agencies to meet any eventuality due to earthquake, Forest fire, Flash floods or reasons beyond human control.
Principal & District Session Judge Reasi, Kamlesh Pandita; Sr. Superintendent of Police Rashmi Wazir; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Rajinder Kumar Sharma; Assistant Commissioner(Revenue), Sanjay Kumar Badyal, besides SDM Katra, Thuroo (Dharmari), Mahore, Commandant CISF, Executive Engineers of all the departments, Tehsildars and officers of all the concerned departments attended the meeting.
The experts from the SMVDU Prof. Suneel Wanchoo gave opening comments, while a detailed presentation was given by Dr. Supriyo Bhatt, seismic expert, He also suggested long/short term measures for dealing with the Earthquake.
The Chairperson DDMA took stock of the preparedness of the various departments to tackle unforeseen natural eventualities that may occur in the district. She stressed on fool-proof disaster management preparedness for quick and prompt response to minimize loss of life and public property during any disaster. She observed that disasters pose many challenges to mankind and can be handled only through coordination, cooperation and collaboration of various government & private agencies including NGOs.
She also highlighted the ongoing efforts of district administration in disaster risk reduction like preparation of disaster management plan and policy, development of early warning systems, construction of Emergency Operating Centres (EOC) and flood embankments, constitution of disaster response forces and capacity building of communities through continuous training and awareness programmes. She further stressed on construction of government buildings by using earthquake residence techniques.
The Chief Medical officer was directed to prepare an evacuation plan for district Hospital, while Tehsildars were asked to identify the open spaces in their respective jurisdiction to rescue the people at the time of disaster.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner also launched COVID HEALTH CARDS which will be issued to 12-category of people, including Police Personnel and other staff performing duties during COVID-19 & Shopkeepers etc. She informed that the administration will conduct COVID tests of all categories of people including meat sellers, Greengrocers, Barbers, Medical Storekeepers, Voluntary persons and others every month.
