Distribution of Vegetable seedlings held at Kitchen Garden, Bijbehara
Srinagar: To fulfil the commitment of providing quality vegetable seedling to the farmers and growers, Sub Divisional Magistrate Anantnag Saleem Jahangir in presence of Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Syed Waseem Ahmad Shah today kick started sale of various hybrid and open pollinated seedlings (Cauliflower, Cabbage, Knol-Khol, Saag, Broccoli, Onion, Tomato) at Kitchen Garden Bijbehara.
Speaking on the occasion, the SDM Anantnag said that the popularity of such an effort is demonstrated by the presence of a large number of people at the point of sale.
He said the endeavour of the Agriculture department has been to promote kitchen gardening for many years by providing high quality seeds and seedlings at subsidized rates to encourage growers to take this activity as a hobby and consume organically grown vegetables from the backyard of their houses which inturn reduces their dependency on imported vegetables.
On the occasion, Chief Agriculture Officer Anantnag said a drive of sale of seedlings has already been initiated by the Department across the valley.
He said it is expected that around two lakh vegetable seedlings of different varieties are put on sale covering an area of 9.3 hectares of land with an expected production of 3262 quintals of worth Rs. 97.86 lakhs.
