District Administration organises workshop on “Good Governance” at Polytechnic College Jammu

JAMMU : District Administration Jammu on Saturday organised an exclusive interactive session for students of Polytechnic College with BR Sharma, – Retired IAS officers (1984 Batch) of Jammu and Kashmir here at the district level workshop on ‘Good Governance’.

BR Sharma, who served at highest levels, including Chief Secretary and Chairman JKPSC, interacted with the students of Polytechnic College and people from different walks of life and shared his rich experience about the difference between the times when he was in service and today along with how the government can provide good governance to the people.

At the outset, while presenting the welcome address, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Avny Lavasa welcomed the guests and participants. She said that it was a great opportunity for all who are present in the workshop to get benefitted from the experiences of BR Sharma.

The Deputy Commissioner also apprised about the steps being initiated by the district administration and facilities being provided to people by online services for seeking domicile certificate, Revenue Documents, EWS certificates, digitization of land etc.

DIO, Sanjay Gupta informed the participants about e-rental services of the government along with others.

District Social Welfare Officer Mamta Rajput gave a detailed presentation on online services of the department like SMAS, pensions to old age people and Divyangjans, scholarships to different categories of students etc.

Similarly, Surinder Kumar shared the details of unique initiative C-DYTE of district administration with the participants. He said that 15 C-DYTE centers are functioning in the district to provide physical and educational training to the youth in the 18-30 year age group aspiring to join Army and other belt forces.

Presenting the keynote address, the former Chief Secretary BR Sharma appreciated the district administration for launching unique and impressive initiatives. He also congratulated the district officers for providing good governance to the people at their doorsteps. He said that for good governance, decisions should be implemented on the ground level.

He said that good governance has many important factors like participation of people, accountability, transparency, responsibility, effective & efficient, equitable, inclusive and the implementation of rule of law. He added that these factors are very important for good governance and indeed for sustainable development.

He further said that the right use of technology is also very important to provide good governance to the people.

At the end, ADC L&O Harvinder Singh presented the vote of thanks.

Along with others, CPO Yoginder Katoch, Principal Polytechnic College Arun Bangotra, staff of the college and students were present during the workshop.
