District Library Kathua hosts awareness program on Nasha Mukt Abhiyan

KATHUA : District library Kathua today organised an awareness programme on ‘Nasha Mukt Abhiyan’ to educate people about ill effects of drug consumption.

 

On the occasion, the speakers, including Librarian Sunil Sharma, Madan Lal Toofan (Retd IRS), Advocate Appu Singh Salathia, Social Activist Shashi Sharma and Poet Santosh Dhiman enlightened the participants about the hazards of Narcotic and Psychotropic substances.

 

Madan Lal Toofan, Retd IRS shared his service experience and expertise on the illegal substances.

 

Advocate Appu Singh Slathia informed the participants about the provisions of NDPS Act of 1995. He said that the situation is quite alarming in view of increased numbers of drug addicts.

 

All the guest Speakers emphasised on the power of constructive focus of life; willpower; meditation and positive attitude to overcome the drug menace.

 

Social activist Shashi Sharma asked the students to instill values of Shaheed Bhagat Singh for a better society and put in all their energies towards the well-being of Kathua.

 

Poet Santosh Dhiman put forth his impeccable poetic views on Drug menace.

 

Student speaker, Aakriti Sharma, vehemently discussed the role of Indian Geography; glamorization by the social media and lack of sensitization, which has led to the sudden increase in the drug culture of India, especially in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.

 

Other speakers, Neha and Vivek threw light on the physical, mental and the psychological impacts of the use of illegal substances on humans and the best possible ways of rehabilitating an addict.

 

The programme culminated with nasha mukt pledge with the resolve of taking more imperative steps to deal with the drug abuse in both in Kathua and the country at large.
