DLSA Ganderbal organises webinar on ‘World Environment Day’

Ganderbal: On the directions of Chairperson District Legal Services Authority (Pr. District & Sessions Judge) Ganderbal, Shazia Tabasum, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Ganderbal today organized a webinar on ‘World Environment Day’.

This year the theme of the day was “Ecosystem restoration” which is set in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The Day was celebrated to raise awareness of the importance of the ecosystem.

Divisional Forest Officer, Sindh Forest Division Ganderbal, Owais Ahmad, District Mineral Officer, Geology & Mining Ganderbal, Zulfkar Ahmad, Block Development Officer Ganderbal, Shoaib Noor were Speakers on the occasion, whereas the proceedings of the webinar was conducted by Advocate Sheikh Imran.

The speakers in their message highlighted that the healthier ecosystems with rich biodiversity, yields greater benefits such as fertile soils, good harvest of resources and larger stores of greenhouse gases.

They appealed to all to plant more trees for a healthy life and clean atmosphere and stated it is the fundamental duty of every citizen of this country to protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers, wildlife and to have compassion for living creatures.

They also deliberated on the Environment protection Act 1986, National Green tribunal Act, the Air (Prevention and control of pollution Act, the water (prevention and control of pollution Act), the forest conservation Act and the Indian forest Act.

All speakers highlighted the functioning of their respective departments vis-à-vis protection, conservation and restoration of the environment.
