Doctors’ Day Celebrated at Dept of Cardiology JNMC

Aligarh : To mark the Doctor’s Day celebration, a function was organized at JNMC, AMU. Addressing the event, Prof Asif Hasan, Chairman, Department of Cardiology, emphasized the importance of addressing the challenges posed by young coronary artery disease (CAD), which affects approximately 15 to 20 percent of patients under the age of 45. This particular group of patients often lacks traditional risk factors but presents with severe heart attacks and even sudden death.

“In addition to genetic predisposition, the primary reasons are dyslipidemia, particularly high levels of LDL cholesterol, elevated blood sugar, increased levels of hscrp and high blood pressure. Job insecurity, work-related stress, smoking, lack of exercise, obstructive sleep apnea, and other addictions further worsen the situation”, he added.

Prof Asif Hasan stressed the importance of early medical checkups (starting from 25 to 30 years of age) and being aware of one’s blood pressure and basic blood tests.

He added that on Doctors’ Day, we must dedicate ourselves to researching young CAD. The Department of Cardiology at JNMC is actively involved in a project on young CAD to gain a better understanding of this issue in the Indian context and identify hidden risk factors, thereby enabling more effective management of young CAD.
