Dr. Joseph Sekhampu Appointed As North-West University Business School’s Chief Director

A new chief director has joined the Business School of the North-West University (NWU). Dr Joseph Sekhampu, an executive in private higher education, will take the reins on 17 January 2023.

Dr Sekhampu boasts managerial expertise that includes being executive head of commerce and management (from August 2022), chief operating officer (2019 to 2022) and dean of the School of Commerce (2014 to 2019) at Milpark Education, a South African private education institution in business education.

A graduate of the NWU with an MCom (2004) and PhD (2010) in Economics, Dr Sekhampu is not new to the NWU. He worked as senior lecturer and research leader at the university from 2009 to 2013. During this time he coordinated the first-year Economics programme and established the PoSER research group. PoSER involved researching poverty and socioeconomic issues. Dr Sekhampu’s other qualifications include a PGDip in General Management (2018) from the GIBS Business School and a diploma as part of an international study programme (2004) from Molde University College in Norway. He also enrolled for an MBA at the GIBS Business School.

An awarded researcher, he counts the Best Contribution to Research Award (2014) from Millpark Education and Research Excellence awards as Top Researcher in the Faculty of Economic Sciences (2012) and Top 20 Performer (2011) from the NWU among his accolades.

Dr Sekhampu contributed various articles in revered publications in journals accredited by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and at peer-reviewed conferences. He is also co-author of the Introduction to Economics textbook (2021).

He describes himself as being passionate about life and using technology to bridge the gap between people, processes and technology to increase productivity.

Prof Bismark Tyobeka, principal and vice-chancellor of the NWU, welcomed Dr Sekhampu and expressed full confidence in his ability to build on the impressive successes of the NWU Business School and take it to even greater heights.
