Dr. Pawar and Dr. Jitendra Singh chair : Women Leading Change in Health and Science in India, Conference
Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar today said that the seeds of gender equality have been sown in the country, which will reap benefits for the society.
She stressed that women’s empowerment would lead to an equitable, inclusive, and diverse growth story for the nation. Dr. Pawar chaired the ‘Women leading Change in Health and Science in India’ Conference along with Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh in New Delhi.
Dr. Pawar also lauded the Accredited Social Health Activist workers for their service during the COVID-19 pandemic as the first line of defence, who then received the Global Health Leaders Award-2022. She emphasised having more women-centric initiatives for holistic development.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Jitendra Singh also stressed on doing away with the past hangover of gender-specific norms. He said the government schemes must not be seen from a welfare perspective but also as a platform that can strengthen their resolve.
At the event, appreciated India’s step towards emergency cash transfer through Direct Benefit Transfer and called it a great example of a gender-intentional policy.
