Dr. Virendra Kumar to address ‘National Convention on Digital Best Practices and North East Summit’

New Delhi: The National Trust for the Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities,working for the empowerment of Divyangjan in these categories since 2000 under the aegis of Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India,will virtually organise a National Convention on Digital Best Practices and North East SummitforPersons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (PwIDDs)on 7th Augustbetween 11.30 AM -2.33 PM atDr. Ambedkar International Centre, Delhi.

Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar will grace the virtual summit as the Chief Guest. Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Km. PratimaBhoumik will the Guest of Honour. Ms. Anjali Bhawra, Secretary, DEPwD& Chairperson, National Trust; Sh.Nikunja Kishore Sundaray, Joint Secretary, DEPwD&CEO, National Trust and Sh. Kishore BaburaoSurwade, DDG, DEPwD will also participate the summit alongwith all the registered organisations and other stakeholders of the National Trust in the North – East region.

The summit, first of its kind, is being organised for the seven states of North- East region as part of the celebration of the 75th year of Independence of the country (AzaadiKaAmritMahotsav). It aims to increase the footfall of the schemes and activities of the National Trust in the region and share the benefits of digital technology for the empowerment of Persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.

The highlight of the summit will bea presentation by Prof. (Dr.) Madhusudan Rao, IIT Delhi,a national award winning scientist working on improving accessibility for the disabled. He will be sharing the Research and Innovation for Product Development for Divyangjan. Prof. Rao is awell-known name in development of assistive technologies for empowerment of visually challenged. Prof. Ravi Poovaiah and Dr Ajanta Sen from IIT Mumbai will be presenting the Jellow-an AAC Communicator for Children with Speech Disability. Other panelists of the convention will include MsShilpi Kapoor, Barrier Break Technology; Sh. Nipun Malhotra,co-founder & CEO of the Nipman Foundation that works in the area of health and advocacy for Persons with Disabilities; Dr. JinamoniSaikia, Principal Scientist, Assam Agricultural Univesity and Dr.SapamJasowant Singh, Board Member National Trust.
