Effective Policies for Quality Teachers in Southeast Asian Countries – Training of Trainers
UNESCO developed a training manual, ‘From Teacher Policy to Quality Teacher’ comprising six modules; Teacher as Curriculum Designer, Learning Designer, Resource Developer, Learning Doctor, Reflective Practitioner and Policy Driver.
Training of Trainers (ToT) on Effective Policies for Quality Teachers in Southeast Asian Countries to assist the teachers in adapting and navigating the challenges into meaningful teaching and learning experiences was conducted by UNESCO in cooperation with the University of Kebangsaan Malaysia. One hundred participants from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Timor-Leste participated in the ToT held virtually on 6 and 7 October 2021.
The ToT is a celebration of the important role of teachers in the learning process of learners and especially this year theme of World Teacher’s Day Celebration on 5 October is “Teachers at the heart of education recovery” stated Muhammad Djelid, Director of UNESCO Jakarta.
“Strengthening a country’s teacher policies and training will satisfy the SDG4 objective, which strives to ensure that no child is left behind in the education system, thus contributing to the nation’s overall wellbeing”, said Itje Chodidjah, Executive Chair of the Indonesian National Commission for UNESCO.
The participants expressed that the ToT was a very fruitful experience to enhance their knowledge and skills in four educational pillars a) Curriculum Design, b) Learning Design and Delivery, c) Learning Resources, and d) Learning Assessment.
