Eight-day long 13th Foundation Day Celebrations begins at Central University of Punjab
Bathinda: The eight-day long 13th Foundation Day Celebrations begin at the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) with invited lectures by eminent academicians and a special programme on Matribhasha Diwas. The 13th Foundation Day Celebrations of the university, scheduled from February 21–28, 2022, are special as they feature invited lecture series by eminent academicians, international quiz competitions, idea hunt, food carnival, and a series of cultural events.
The celebrations kicked off on Monday with the launch of the National Bird Survey 2022, as a part of the citizen science initiative to record the data of birds in our ecosystem.
In the first couple of days, two invited lectures were organized under the Foundation Day Lecture Series. The inaugural lecture was delivered by Prof. Kuldip Chand Agnihotri (Advisor to the Minister, Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India) on the topic ‘Sapt Sindhu Kshetra Ki Gyan Parampra’. Prof. Girishwar Mishra (Former Vice Chancellor, Mahatama Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya) delivered the second lecture on the topic “Desh Ke Nirman main Yuva Varg ki Bhumika”.
In addition, a special programme was organized to commemorate International Mother Language Day. During this programme, students from 25 states studying at the university, faculty, and staff members represented their mother language by reciting poems and singing songs in their regional language. The performances were held in various Indian languages such as Hindi, Kannada, Odia, Urdu, Punjabi, Telugu, Marathi, Mizo, Malayalam, Haryanavi, Awadhi, Magahi, Bhojpuri, Sambalpuri, Kashmiri etc.
On this occasion, Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, the Vice Chancellor, exphasized on the need to preserve the language diversity of India by learning each others religional dilects. He motivated the researchers to prepare database of idioms and proverbs of regional languages of India as it carries traditional wisdom which would be benificial for society. He stated that the university within the short span of 13 years from its establishment has obtained the 84th Rank (University Categary) in the NIRF 2021 rankings. He complimented the CUPB fraternity for their contributions towards the rapid growth of the university and inspired them to take their alma mater to new heights.
Apart from this, an international quiz competition was organized as a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme series on the topic ‘Unsung Heroes of the Indian Freedom Struggle from Punjab’. Dr. Neha Nema (University of Delhi), Kapil Garg (Haryana), and Arsh Kumar (CUPB student) got the first, second, and third positions, respectively, in this quiz competition. More than 2600 participants from all across India and 23 foreign countries participated in this programme.
The other major competitive events that will be organized in the coming days are the Rangoli and Best Out of Waste Competition, Inno Idea Hunt-2022, Food Carnival, Documentary Making Competition, Song, Dance, and Choreography Competition.
This eight-day celebration will culminate with a grand ceremony on the eve of the 13th Foundation Day of the University on February 28, 2022.
