ETU “LETI”: American Professor Hojjat Adeli is Honorary Doctor of LETI

On May 27, at a meeting of the Academic Council, Professor Hojjat Adeli of Ohio State University (USA), a distinguished researcher of artificial intelligence, was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of ETU “LETI.”

The award ceremony, which took place as a video conference, was opened by Viktor Sheludko, Rector of ETU “LETI.” He announced the decision of the Academic Council of May 27 to award Professor Hojjat Adeli from Ohio University (USA) the title “Honorary Doctor of the St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University “LETI” for his significant contribution to the development of science and higher education, recognized personal scientific achievements and personal contribution to the organization of research and development in higher education.

“Professor Hojjat Adeli is the recipient of 65 awards and honors, including four Honorary Doctorates and several Honorary Professorships at European and Asian Universities. Today, one more honorary title will be added to this list – Honorary Doctor of the Russian university, LETI University. This is a landmark event for us and, I am sure, an important event in the life of our esteemed American colleague. I am sure that our decision will strengthen cooperation between our scientists and our universities and, in general, the development of research and academic partnerships between our countries.”

At the end of his speech, Viktor Sheludko wished Hojjat Adeli new scientific achievements and invited him to visit LETI.

In response, Hojjat Adeli thanked the Academic Council, the Rector of ETU “LETI,” and Mikhail Kupriyanov, the head of the scientific and educational areas, for the honor.

“This is a great honor and privilege to become a part of this great university located in the best place of modern science in Russia. I look forward to the opportunity to visit your great city and meet you and your faculty.”

At the end of the ceremony, the newly honored recipient gave a lecture on the impact of ubiquitous machine learning on society.

From the moment of being awarded the title, Hojjat Adeli can participate in meetings of the university Academic Council with the right of advisory vote, be elected to the commissions of the Academic Council, and represent the university on behalf of the rector in Russian and international professional and public organizations.
